Mr. Sean Scanlan, MA

Psychologist

Licensed Psychotherapist with the Order of Psychologists of Quebec, OPQ# 11144-08

Hi, I’m Sean Scanlan, a licensed psychologist. I am a member of the Order of Psychologists of Quebec with over 12 years of professional experience and offer my services in English and French. I completed my graduate training at McGill University and specialize in working with individuals who struggle with emotional or interpersonal issues, including but not limited to, depression, anxiety and panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma, life adjustments or difficulties, professional burnout, identity issues, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), mind∕body issues such as chronic pain and fibromyalgia, and other chronic illness and health issues.

I have worked in a variety of settings with individuals and groups including private and public health settings, as well as in community crisis intervention, and have had the opportunity to provide psychoeducational testing for children and adults with specific learning disabilities in an urban setting as well as in more remote regions of Quebec. Having worked in physical rehabilitation for a number of years, I take a whole-person approach to therapy and take into consideration the intermingling of all the various aspects of a person’s life, the psychological, emotional, physical, social, and environmental elements that have shaped you, into the you you are in this moment.

I am fascinated by the idea that a particular human connection, a vulnerable conversation, can potentially be a catalyst for significant personal change. That there are indescribable elements that can exist within a relationship that is healing and transformative. The creation of this indescribable quality is my priority when meeting with individuals who are consulting for therapy. My therapeutic aim is to offer a warm, sincere, accepting, and safe atmosphere in which difficulties can be explored. The sort of atmosphere where we can put our heads together in order to find workable solutions toward living a more meaningful life. I have received training in various empirically supported psychotherapy approaches fitting under the umbrella of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), including traditional CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP). I work with individual clients ranging in age from late adolescence and young adulthood to those approaching more advanced age.

I also have a passionate interest in the arts, including both visual art and music.

I’m looking forward to working with you!
