My Areas of Expertise

I Can Also Help With
Hello! My name is Julieta Aguilera Vasquez and I am a doctoral candidate in the School/Applied Child Psychology program at McGill University. I completed my clinical training across four sites, including the McGill Psychoeducational and Counselling Clinic, the Jewish General Hospital – Outpatient Psychiatry Department, the Ottawa- Carleton District School Board, and the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital – Pediatric Psychology Rotation.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families presenting with a range of issues, including anxiety, autism, ADHD, behaviour problems, depression, coping with difficult medical diagnoses, emotion dysregulation, learning difficulties, self- harm, and trauma. My approach to treatment is eclectic in nature and incorporates various evidence-based treatments such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and mindfulness techniques. Additionally, I draw from attachment and strength-based therapies, elements from the psychodynamic approach such as play therapy, and family systems approaches. Furthermore, as a bi-cultural and tri-lingual therapist, I strive to provide culturally sensitive services to families and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
In my personal approach to therapy, I value collaboration, openness, and trust. I strive to create a warm, supportive, and nurturing environment to invite open communication and advance the therapeutic process. I acknowledge that the decision to seek therapy is oftentimes not an easy one, but I am often humbled by the strength and resilience I see in the families and individuals I work with. In our sessions, I will be working with you to identify treatment goals and find the most effective strategies to promote growth and healing. As a therapist, I can offer the tools to help you meet your goals, but I also trust in the expertise you will bring to sessions and your knowledge about your own life and perspectives.
I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your goals!
