Ms. Gila Foomani is a doctoral candidate in Psychology at Université du Québec à Montréal. She has more than 10 years of university level training in Psychology. Her extensive clinical experience includes work with children, teens, adults and older adults in schools and hospitals, namely Douglas Mental Health Institute, Montreal Children’s Hospital and Montreal General Hospital. She specializes in treatment of anxiety disorders and mood disorders and has worked with individuals suffering from chronic pain.
Her therapeutic approach includes techniques from evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness and motivational interviewing. She believes that all psychological treatments should be personalized to the client’s needs and that therapy is a true collaborative work between the client and the therapist with the therapeutic alliance at the center. As such, she puts a lot of importance in building a trusting and respectful relationship with her clients. As a therapist, she strives to be warm, empathetic, non-judgemental and always transparent in order to create a safe space where she guides her clients towards the change they seek in their lives and ultimately, towards improved quality of life.
